Teaching May Never Be the Same— How Teachers Can Leave the Classroom for the Boardroom
Teachers are some of the most altruistic people and they care deeply about their profession and their students, but there comes a time in everyone’s life when we reach a breaking point and we have to make the hard decision to put ourselves before others. I write about this from personal experience, because I myself used to be a high school teacher before life circumstances forced me to re-evaluate my working conditions and led me to take a job as a business consultant.
Lucky for me this was just before the pandemic started and since then I have been working from the luxury of my home. Meanwhile I’ve witnessed all my teacher friends barely able to manage the absolute chaos that the pandemic caused (and is still causing) for schools.
At the same time, the pandemic has completely changed how we all think about work. The “Great Resignation” is happening across all industries and it’s certainly impacting teaching and education. Now, employers are taking notice and actively making changes in order to retain their best talent, so the big question is whether schools will be able to adapt and re-shape the teaching profession to be a more sustainable career path or whether we’ll continue seeing teachers leave the classroom.
